# Research review and page-by-page coverage

Reviewed 29–30 September 2026. Source: David Duru, *Summer Economic Inequality Project (1)*, 37-page PDF supplied by the author. The author confirmed this version.

## Scope and interpretation

All 37 pages were reviewed, including the concluding analysis. Topic sections follow that analysis while bringing supporting tables from earlier pages into the relevant tab. This is an editorial and source review, not a guarantee that every statistic in the manuscript is independently verified.

- **Source checked:** compared with a public source or reproduced from its public export.
- **Paper transcription:** transcribed from the manuscript and linked to the named source, but not fully reproduced from the original table. Some individual values within these charts were checked separately.
- **Settings incomplete:** retained as an exploratory observation only; missing filters prevent a reproducible comparison.

Source dates are not interchangeable. Census city estimates, school-district results, county health indicators, and metropolitan BLS statistics cover different populations. ACS five-year estimates are not single-year observations. Margins of error were not retained in the paper; small differences should not be presented as statistically significant.

## Corrections and unresolved evidence

### Wage definitions

The paper labels $67,470 as the median. BLS identifies it as the mean; the median is $52,990. The selected occupation values in the paper also match means, so the site includes separate median and mean views.

### Jobs per 1,000

Home health and personal care aides account for 27.689 jobs per 1,000, or about 2.77%, not 27.7%. The paper’s broad claims about occupational income shares and top-1% income are not supported by its tables.

### Housing denominators

34,927 units are renter-occupied; 34,001 pay cash rent. The rent-to-income ratio covers 32,700 households with a computable ratio. Owner costs are not rent.

### Education and demographic labels

The 18.3% attainment category includes some college and associate’s degrees. The 20.5% White poverty estimate is White alone, not Hispanic or Latino. Hispanic origin can overlap with racial groups.

### School scores and graduation

Verified 2025 exports replace rounded paper scores, including the American Indian or Alaska Native ELA value of 41.7%. The district graduation rate is reproducible; the county comparison and dropout figure need a matching cohort and year.

### Revised industry data

June 2026 industry jobs use BLS’s September release. The source revises estimates, so some values differ from the August figures in the manuscript. Percent changes on the BLS page are year-over-year, not year-to-date. A final check of the dated columns on 30 September corrected the workforce counts: June has a labor force of 318,900, with 306,400 employed and 12,500 unemployed. The draft’s 318,300, 305,800, and 12,400 correspond to May.

### Poverty and population

The draft’s age table contains inconsistent counts, including the under-five entry and the age-65-and-older total. Those rows are not charted. National poverty values and city-versus-metro unemployment comparisons are withheld unless definitions and periods align.

### Opportunity Atlas

Approximate ranges are retained as exploratory manuscript observations. Missing filters and tract lists prevent a reproducible map or area average. Claims attributing the outcomes to nearby employers are not established by these observations.

### Health

Lead figures use the source’s 2025 threshold and tract data. The asthma description is a rate per 10,000, despite an inconsistent percent sign in the source headline; the paper’s 10% hospitalization claim is not reproduced. Mental-health figures are county-level and lack a recorded collection year in the manuscript.

### Other unverified claims

Business-ownership shares and the draft demographic population table require exact categories and denominators. The website does not assign identities to suppressed business data, infer causation from group comparisons, or treat hypotheses about government budgeting as established findings.

## Source checks performed

- Census QuickFacts: Syracuse household income, per-capita income, homeownership, housing value, rent, household count, digital access, attainment, labor-force participation, and overall poverty. Census table metadata was also consulted to correct attainment and demographic labels. A direct Census data-table API request required an API key; values not otherwise reproduced remain labeled as manuscript transcriptions.
- CNYVitals: the public Syracuse profile, chart definitions, map-sharing links, and public CSV exports for school scores, graduation, and lead. The four downloaded exports are retained in `data/review/`.
- BLS: the official metropolitan Economy at a Glance table and Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics query results. The occupation table verified job counts, wage percentiles, and mean/median differences. A bulk-file request returned HTTP 403; the official browser query supplied the wage checks instead.
- Opportunity Insights: the Atlas methodology and cohort interpretation. The manuscript did not preserve sufficient filters and tract identifiers to reproduce its observations. No invented tract geography or fabricated choropleth was created.

## Interactivity and maintenance

The 28 chart datasets live in `assets/js/research-data.js`. Their tables are also present in the topic-page HTML for access without JavaScript. When changing a dataset, update its visible narrative and static table as well; run `scripts/check-site.cjs` to check the site’s structural integrity.

The charts provide keyboard-accessible values, sorting, applicable measure selectors, text filters for longer lists, expandable tables, and CSV downloads containing provenance. Downloads include the complete dataset, not only a filtered view. All percentage charts use a 0–100% axis; other chart scales start at zero. Opportunity Atlas intervals are manuscript ranges, not statistical confidence intervals.

Maps embed the public CNYVitals views. They require internet access and may change independently of this site. The site offers direct source links if the embeds are unavailable.

Numbered links open MLA-style source citations. The original manuscript’s source links were preserved where applicable; bibliographic details, source definitions, and access dates were normalized or expanded. The Sources tab groups entries by publisher. The original manuscript itself has not been edited.

Older JSON data and chart scripts are retained for recovery but are no longer loaded by the topic pages or the legacy Findings page. They are historical development artifacts, not the maintained evidence source. No deployment to GitHub Pages was performed.
